Ellsworth nips Sumner in 11 innings

EAST SULLIVAN – Reegan Brown scored on a fielding error in the top of the 11th inning and Catie Cravens pitched a four-hit complete game with 11 strikeouts to lead Ellsworth to a 4-3 high school softball victory over Sumner Monday.

Sabrina Jellison had a single and scored a run while Cravens and Tessa Rockwood each singled for the Eagles.

Lona Sargent had a double while Nicky Sargent hit an RBI single. Angela Leach and Nicole Leach each added a single for the Tigers.

MDI 7-6, Presque Isle 4-1

At Presque Isle, Mount Desert Island righthander Nia Megquier fired a four-hitter in the nightcap, striking out six and not walking anybody, after scattering eight hits in the opener.

Megquier struck out eight and didn’t walk anybody in the first game.

In the opener, Courtney Bartlett’s two-run double keyed a three-run third inning that gave MDI the lead for good.

Bartlett had an RBI single to go with her double and Kaitlyn Vaux singled twice.

Katie Moody and Angela Norsworthy had two base hits apiece for Presque Isle.

In the nightcap, Tia Paradis’ two-run single highlighted a four-run seventh inning that broke open a close game.

Lauren Smith had two singles for the winners and the only other hit, besides Paradis’ base hit, was Lynne Bowden’s single.

Katie Delong, Katie Moody, Angela Norsworthy and Heather Richards singled for Presque Isle.

Ellsworth sweeps Caribou

At Caribou on Saturday, complete-game efforts out of Catie Cravens and Emily Miller propelled the Ellsworth Eagles to a doubleheader sweep of Caribou, 6-2 and 14-2 Saturday.

In the first game, Cravens allowed five hits while Miller, Maggie Seavey, and Tasha Manning each singled twice to lead the Eagles’ offense.

Ali Richards and Kristen Espling each had a single and a run scored for the Vikings.

In the second game, Miller allowed four singles while Seavey provided more than enough offense, going 4-for-4 with a double and three singles. Maggie Harding also had four hits – all singles – and Manning had a double and a single.

For Caribou, Serena Greer and Jessica Kinney each had a single and a run.

At Sabattus, Ashley Hunt hit three singles, two triples and drove in five runs to help lead Medomak Valley to victory.

Meagan Bradstreet had four singles and a home run while Erin Sweeney had two singles and a home run with four RBIs. Stephanie Lee hit five singles while Jen O’Jala added four singles for the Panthers.

Shannon Safford had a triple while Magan Blais singled for Oak Hill.

At East Machias, the Raiders rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to hand the Blue Devils their first loss of the season.

Ashley Tilton, Kayla Wood and Lauren Finn loaded the bases for the Raiders in the sixth with three straight singles and Tilton then scored on Meagan Wood’s popout to first. Rebekah Cox and Sara Rushforth followed with back-to-back RBI singles as the Raiders avenged an 8-3 loss to the Blue Devils from earlier this season.

Darcie Gillespie recorded an RBI double for Calais and Courtney Ayers had an RBI single.

At Eastport, Eryn Crowe hit a two-run home run, singled twice and tripled for a total of six RBIs to lead the Dragons to victory.

Courtney Cochran chipped in with a double, single and three RBIs for the winners and Tiffany Wormell added three singles and two RBIs.

Ashley Murphy drove in five runs with four singles for Shead and Whitney Remington added two singles and two RBIs.

Presque Isle sweeps MDI

At Presque Isle, Travis Brooker singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs to lead Presque Isle past Mount Desert Island 10-6 and Derrek Belanger added three singles and four RBIs for a 12-2 victory in the second game and a sweep of the doubleheader.

Luke Ireland chipped in with two singles, a double and two RBIs for Presque Isle in the first game and Matt McGlinn added two doubles, a single, and an RBI. Bennett Cassidy contributed a double, single, and RBI.

Nick Swanson singled twice, doubled and drove in two runs for MDI and Brett Mitchell added a triple, single and two RBIs. Ben Clark added a double, single and RBI and Sam Merrill had two singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Tyler Lamoureux recorded a double, single and two RBIs and Cassidy added three singles and two RBIs for the winners. Chris Beaulieu and McGlinn each added two singles with Beaulieu driving in a run.

Clark doubled, singled and drove in a run for MDI.

At Dover-Foxcroft on Saturday, two runs scored on a suicide squeeze with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Ponies the win.

Brad Bellamare’s bunt brought in Logan Forrest from third with the tying run. When the Trojans tried to throw out Adam Conway, who was moving up from second to third, the ball sailed into left field and Conway scored the winner.

Forrest finished with a single, double, and two RBIs; winning pitcher David White, who hurled a scoreless seventh in relief, posted three singles and an RBI; and Josh Pelletier, Nick Lancisi, and Abe Landry each had two singles and an RBI.

For the Trojans, Sam Stewart had a single, a double, and two RBIs; Nick Swanson added a single and a double, and Kyle Shead had a double.

Jake Arthers had three doubles and Ricky Bernosky added two singles for the Lions.

At Eastport, Mike Cummings slapped a two-run double and added an RBI double later in the game to lead Shead to a win.

Jake Stanley had an RBI single and two sacrifice flies while Justin Lewey added an RBI singe for the Tigers.

Steve Newell hit an RBI triple and Andrew James an RBI single and a double for Woodland. Mark McLellan had two singles and an RBI and Riaan Bosch two singles.

At East Sullivan, Mike Smith slapped an RBI single in the top of the seventh to cap a three-run rally and lift the Eagles to the win.

Louden Jellison and Corey Smith added RBI singles in the inning for Ellsworth. Rick Trombley and Matt Harmon each had a pair of singles.

Mickey Manning and Victor Jacques had a pair of singles apiece for the Tigers and Evan Alexander doubled and singled.

At Rockland, the Black Bears rallied back from an 8-6 deficit with five runs in the seventh inning as they defeated the Tigers.

Ryan Martin hit a double and two singles with two RBIs for Maranacook of Readfield.

John Cappola and David Benner hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning while Derek Tripp added two singles and an RBI for Rockland.
