PRESQUE ISLE – A 5-year-old Presque Isle girl was injured Sunday afternoon when she ran onto the roadway into the path of a pickup truck.

The youngster, who lives on the Chapman Road, attempted to cross the road to go from

one residence to another at about 4 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Ryan Cyr, 18, of Presque Isle, according to Sgt. Joey Seeley of the Presque Isle Police

Department.

Cyr was able to swerve but the front bumper struck the child, knocking her to the pavement, Seeley said Sunday. The youngster, who suffered a leg injury, was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center by Crown Ambulance.

No further information on her condition was available late Monday, but her injuries were not considered life threatening, according to Seeley.

Seeley said there was no damage to Cyr’s 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck. No charges will be filed because the accident was pedestrian error, he said.
