Hermon High School
HERMON – Principal Brian Walsh has announced honor parts for the Class of 2006 at Hermon High School. Graduating ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Bangor Civic Center.
Dustin D. Jalbert, son of Mark and Louise Jalbert of Hermon, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2006. He will attend the University of Maine.
He has maintained high honors all four years of high school. He was a member of student council in grades 10 and 11, and served as vice president in grade 12. He was a member of the National Honor Society for three years, a Boys State representative in 2005, student of the month in grades nine, 10 and 11, and received academic achievement awards in all discipline areas throughout his high school years.
Jalbert was selected for Who’s Who Among American High School Students and the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences in 2005. He was on the chess team in grades nine and 10, played varsity baseball all four years, and was captain during his senior year. He received the Penobscot Valley Conference Scholar Athlete Award in March 2006 and the Top Scholar Award from the University of Maine.
Cassandra White, daughter of William and Rinda White of Hermon, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend Albany College of Pharmacy.
She earned high honors throughout her four years of high school. She was a member of the National Honor Society for three years and secretary senior year. She played varsity sports all four years in basketball and soccer and was captain for both in her senior year. She played varsity softball in grades nine, 10 and 12 and was Eastern Maine Class B Rookie of the Year. She received awards for Eastern Maine First Team All-Conference for soccer, Big East Basketball Player of the Year runner-up, Big East First Team and All-Defensive Basketball Teams, Scholar Athlete awards, and was selected Bangor Daily News Player of the Week for soccer and basketball. As a saxophone player, White received the Outstanding Soloist Award for jazz and was selected for District V band. She was involved in yearbook, Spanish Club, Civil Rights Team and class council.
Piscataquis Community High School
GUILFORD – Claire Cook, daughter of Michael and Kathleen Davis of Sangerville, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2006 at Piscataquis Community High School. She will attend St. Joseph’s College to study communications-advertising.
She has been active in her school as treasurer of Key Club during her senior year, student council treasurer, and the business editor for the yearbook. She is president of the Penquis Chapter of the National Honor Society. She was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State in her junior year.
Cook has played field hockey for four years, was elected captain her senior year, and received the Players Choice Award. She participated in the junior varsity basketball team and cross-country ski team.
She has been a member of the SAD 4 Task Force, the Piscataquis Community High School Interview Committee, and the School Administrative Unit Review Team for Department of Education Visit and Analysis. She has been recognized academically with the Haley Award in 2003 and 2004. She received the Maine Principal’s Award for 2006.
Abbie Brittany Lois Galuski, daughter of Theodore and Marjorie Galuski of Guilford, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend St. Joseph’s College to study history and secondary education.
She is president of her class and a member of student council, the art club, key club and is the editor-in-chief of the yearbook. She has been involved in the teaching and prep of art classes at the kindergarten-grade one elementary levels. She received the Russell Edes Award for highest average as well as a foreign language award. Galuski was captain of three varsity sports, which she played for all four years of high school, field hockey, cross-country skiing and softball. Throughout her years playing field hockey, she received PVC honorable mention, PVC 1st team and All-State.
Greenville High School
GREENVILLE – Principal Cory A. Smith of Greenville High School has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2006.
Bethany Bartley, daughter of Woodie and Lisa Bartley of Greenville, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend Colby College to study biology.
She was inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior. She served as vice-president of her freshman class and president the following three years. She has been an active member of Key Club serving as secretary for three years.
Bartley participated in soccer, basketball, track and softball. She was elected captain of all four teams her senior year. She was the recipient of the 2006 Maine Principals’ Association Award for academic excellence and citizenship.
Elisa Gary, daughter of Walter and Wanda Gary of Greenville, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2006. She will attend Thomas College to study psychology. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She has been a member of the Spanish Club and Key Club. She participated in school musicals and chorus, cross-country and was a four-year member of the basketball and softball teams, serving as a co-captain her senior year.
