CUMBERLAND – A 16-year-old boy from Gray is in custody after being charged with eluding police, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase that hit speeds of more than 100 mph.

The chase started around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Interstate 295 in Cumberland after police clocked the car going 106 mph, police said. But the driver refused to stop and led police on a chase that ended on Route 100 in Cumberland.

The chase came to an end when the driver’s car hit a spike mat, narrowly missing a sheriff’s deputy who had put it out. The suspect’s vehicle was then rammed by a state trooper’s vehicle.

The driver suffered minor injuries, and is being held at the Long Creek juvenile detention facility.

The boy had received his driver’s license five weeks ago, and was driving a car belonging to his mother, police said.
