WATERVILLE – A group of school districts, communities, and nonprofit organizations left in crisis by P.P.C.O.M., a bankrupt Oakland-based fuel dealer, reached a settlement with Irving Oil regarding the disputed ownership of oil stored in a tank in Winslow. Under the agreement, Irving will deliver 160,000 gallons of No. 2 heating oil for the 2005-2006 season from the Winslow tank or from other terminals. The oil will be delivered as requested and divided among the schools and towns.
The agreement, approved by U.S. Bankruptcy Court, includes the town of Oakland, Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers, Maine SAD 16, SAD 47, SAD 49, SAD 58, the city of Waterville, and others.
“Amicably reaching a thoughtful and equitable settlement will help to relieve the misfortune from P.P.C.O.M.’s broken promises and ease the burden on the people in the Kennebec region,” said Ned Bulmer, an Irving spokesman.
Melissa Hewey, a lawyer representing the towns, said the compromise made it possible for the schools and towns to meet their heating needs for the balance of this year without additional expenditures.
