BOYS

Big School (Classes A-B)

Eliot Potvin

Potvin, a junior at Hampden Academy, won his second straight schoolboy tennis state singles championship, defeating Mike Hill of Mount Ararat of Topsham 6-3, 6-3 in the title match. Potvin is the first back-to-back state champ on the boys side since Eric Blakeman of North Yarmouth Academy won four straight from 1987 through 1990.

Small School (Classes C-D)

Jeff Normand

Normand, a sprinter for the Orono track team, won three events and was part of a first-place relay team as the Red Riots won the Penobscot Valley Conference Small School Track and Field Championships. Normand won the 100, 200 and 400 as well as running the second leg of the winning 4×100 relay, and was named the outstanding performer of the meet.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

DANIELLE HUTCHINS

A freshman on the MDI track and field team, Hutchins set two Penobscot Valley conference records at Saturday’s PVC Large School Championships while leading the Trojans to a second-place finish. Hutchins won the 100-meter dash in 12.63 seconds and took the 200 in 25.98. She also won the 400, tied for first in the long jump, and was named the meet’s Outstanding Performer.

Small School (Classes C-D)

JAMIE MILTON

Milton, a junior pitcher at Penobscot Valley in Howland, racked up 33 strikeouts while allowing seven hits in three games last week. Milton fanned 13 and tossed a two-hitter in a 5-1 win over Schenck Tuesday, struck out 10 in a three-hitter in a 12-3 victory over Orono Saturday and allowed two hits while striking out 10 again for a 3-2 win over Penquis.
