We would like to echo many of the thoughts expressed by Michael Hartwell in his article (BDN, May 25) regarding the tour of the Thomas Hill Standpipe.
My wife and I were also first-timers to climb to enjoy the spectacular view from the top. We were two of the younger elderly at under 70. We are looking forward to returning in October to see the fall foliage.
I have to disagree with Hartwell on one comment. Even though it was cloudy, the clouds were high enough so that Mount Katahdin was visible. Living at the gate to Baxter State Park and Katahdin, it was easy to recognize the mountain on the horizon.
