Benefit suppers set for trestle victims

Two benefit suppers and an auction are planned for the victims of an April 23 train accident on a railroad trestle near Depot Road in Warren.

Aaron Staples, 26, of Warren is still in a coma at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, his sister Nicole Staples said Friday. The family is hoping to sometime soon be able to move him to a nearby rehabilitation facility.

The family is hanging onto hope that Aaron will pull through his trauma, she said.

In the meantime, family and friends are putting on two benefit suppers.

On Sunday, a spaghetti supper with desserts and beverages will be served at the Odd Fellows Hall at the corner of Routes 1 and 90 in Warren. A live auction by auctioneer Clayton Winchenbach will follow.

Proceeds will be used to pay for a grave stone for 11-year-old Nathan Chenng, who died in the train accident, and to help with medical costs for Aaron Staples. The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the auction at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $7.50 for adults, and free for children 11 and under.

On Saturday, June 10, a pot luck supper at the Hahn Community Center will take place solely to help with Staples’ medical costs. The meal will include lobster stew, clams, lasagna, pizza and casseroles. The cost is $8 per adult and free for children 4 and under. Serving starts at 5 p.m. There also will be a 50-50 raffle.

For further information about the benefit dinners, contact Nicole Staples at 273-3449.
