Motorcycle crash leaves two injured

A Canadian couple were injured Saturday evening when their motorcycle crashed on Interstate 95 near mile marker 171 in Carmel.

Brent Mackinnon, 57, of Stratford, Prince Edward Island, was driving south at about 5:30 p.m. when his black Honda motorcycle apparently skidded out of control, forcing him to lay the bike down, Maine State Police Trooper Scott Hamilton said Saturday.

Mackinnon’s wife, Margaret Mackinnon, 56, was riding on the back of the bike and suffered minor injuries.

“A witness said they slid on the center of the road where [workers] had patched it,” Hamilton said.

The trooper said he had not spoken with the driver and was unsure if speed or rainy weather conditions played a role in the accident.

The couple were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by Community Ambulance.

Brent Mackinnon appeared to have serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, including broken ribs, Hamilton said.

A nursing supervisor said Sunday afternoon that Brent Mackinnon was in fair condition, but she had no information on Margaret Mackinnon. Both were wearing helmets.

A drunken Bangor man was arrested Saturday evening after taking a bag of fried chicken from a deli at Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street and eating it in the restroom, police said.

According to the Bangor police, William Jennison, 52, was arrested on theft charges and issued a summons for criminal trespass.

A Shaw’s employee witnessed Jennison stuffing a loaf of bread into his backpack, police said. The worker called the night manager, who saw an “extremely intoxicated” man take a bag of fried chicken from the LaCarte deli. The manager followed Jennison to the men’s room door, where he tried to shove the bag into his backpack but struggled with the zipper, according to reports.

Employees then called police around 7 p.m.

Another male employee walked into the restroom after Jennison and saw him sit on the toilet, eat a piece of chicken and discard the bag onto the floor, police said.

Bangor police Officer Joshua Ouellette went to the scene and observed the intoxicated man sitting in the stall with chicken scraps all over the floor at his feet, the reports said. Ouellette arrested Jennison and transported him to Penobscot County Jail.

According to reports, the manager entered the restroom after the incident and recovered the empty bag, which had a price tag of $2.50.

Police are looking for a man in his mid- to late 20s after he allegedly ordered $79 worth of drinks and lobster rolls to go from a Bangor restaurant Saturday and never paid for his meal.

Employees at Captain Nick’s Restaurant on Union Street saw a white male with medium build and blond hair, wearing a plain white hat and sweat pants, order the meal at 5:47 p.m., according to police. The man walked out the door and boarded the New Capehart bus.

Employees believed the man is the same suspect who left the eatery without paying a few weeks ago.

Authorities are investigating a report of a pickup truck being taken from its Main Street parking space in Howland over the weekend.

According to Deputy David Duplisea of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, the 1997 white GMC pickup truck was last seen sometime in the afternoon Saturday.

The owner, who lives in a Main Street apartment, noticed it was missing Sunday morning and reported it to police.

“He simply looked out and saw it was gone,” Duplisea said Sunday afternoon.

Police have no leads or suspects.
