Wedding photos sought for church anniversary

Plans are under way for the 175th Anniversary Celebration of the First Congregational Church of Lincoln, which will take place Sunday, July 16, Eleanor Worcester wrote.

For this special event, one of the display rooms will be the “Wedding Room,” she explained, “where we want to show any wedding pictures, newspaper photos or snapshots of any persons, past or present, who were married in this church.”

Organizers request that contributors provide the names and dates of the weddings, and “which minister of this church married you.

“Every photo, framed or unframed, will be handled carefully and promptly returned” the week after Lincoln’s Homecoming celebration, which ends Sunday, July 23, Worcester promises.

Other welcome contributions for the Anniversary Celebration can include “any pictures or mementos of our church,” Worcester wrote in urging readers to “get out those photo albums and help us make this a wonderful display of our church family through the years.

“We realize people are scattered, but still an important part of our church.”

Photos or memorabilia can be mailed to Worcester, P.O. Box 222, Lincoln 04457.

People interested in the Episcopal Church are invited to a presentation and discussion titled Episcopal Church 101 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church on the corner of North Main and Holyoke streets in Brewer.

Pete Perry and friends will provide a free spaghetti supper, and the church rector, the Rev. Dr. Barbara Clark, will lead the discussion.

Everyone is welcome.

Don Hanson reports that seating for the Green Acres Kennel Shop Pet Nutrition Seminar is limited, so you should register in advance.

The seminar is 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Green Acres, 1653 Union St. in Bangor.

Your $5 donation benefits the Bangor Humane Society Shed and Emily Fund.

The public is invited to participate in a Bowl-A-Thon to raise funds for The Salvation Army’s PowerHouse Teen Center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Family Fun Bowling Center in Bangor.

Charlie Liu of The Salvation Army said the registration deadline for the fundraiser is Saturday, June 10.

The cost is $100 for a team of four or $25 per person. Sponsor sheets are available at The Salvation Army, 65 South Park Street in Bangor.

PowerHouse summer programs for teens 13-18 include a free film club, sports and games, and field trips, for which there is a small transportation fee.

Liu added that The PowerHouse Teen Center Summer Community Skate Lessons will be held from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday morning, weather permitting, beginning June 17, at the Bangor Community Skatepark behind the Paul Bunyan statue on Main Street.

Liu said this program was very popular last year.

The next in a series of fundraisers for MURFS MAINEIACS, the Boston Breast Cancer 3-Day team led by Cheryl Murphy of Hermon, is a Pasta Dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the White Birches restaurant in Ellsworth.

Murphy said White Birches owners Dale and Jeanine Hadlock have donated the use of their establishment for this event, and that the restaurant will be closed to the public for the duration of the fundraiser.

Local country musician Danny Harper will entertain diners.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for children under 10.

They will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance at White Birches, the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Variety in Northeast Harbor.

To date, MURFS MAINEIACS have raised $3,000 of their $10,000 goal for the 60-mile walk, Aug. 4-6, that benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
