A taste of greatness
Enjoy a gourmet meal – and help students from Penobscot Job Corps – during a fund-raising luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 9. The three-course luncheon costs $10 per person, and all proceeds will defray expenses for students to travel to the national SkillsUSA competition in Kansas City this month. Among the menu highlights are shrimp with green chili pesto; apricot-ginger glazed duck, pan-seared medallions of beef with horseradish cream; Portuguese sailors stew; and apple tatin cheesecake with citrus-cardamom glaze. For information or to reserve a seat, call 990-3000, Ext. 286 or Ext. 268.

Market and more
Shop, taste and learn at Unity Market Day. The farmers market takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through November, and each week, the Unity Barn Raisers offer a unique opportunity to explore the products and produce. The first Saturday of each month brings a yard sale and community lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring food made from local farm products. Cost is $6 per adult, $3 for seniors over 60, children and income-eligible folks. On the second Saturday, people who ride their bicycle or walk to the market get a free scoop of ice cream. The third Saturday features cooking classes. Cost is $5 and preregistration is required (call 948-9005). The fourth Saturday of the month offers visitors a chance to taste the market with a table devoted to samples of seasonal products and recipes. For more information, visit www.unitybarnraisers.org.
