BOYS

Big School (Classes A-B)

WILLIE LEVINE

The third singles player on the Camden Hills of Rockport boys tennis team, Levine won two decisive three-set matches as the Windjammers defeated Belfast and Caribou by 3-2 scores to advance to the Eastern Maine Class D final. He edged Josh Nougaret of Belfast 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, then outlasted Caribou’s Casey Lancaster 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Small School (Classes C-D)

NICK BISHOP

A senior first baseman for the Schenck of East Millinocket baseball team, Bishop batted .687 (11 for 16) during a 2-2 week that included a 5-4 win over Stearns of Millinocket that advanced the Wolverines to the Eastern Maine Class D playoffs. Bishop had three doubles, six RBIs, six stolen bases and six runs scored.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

SAM BESSE

The Bangor sophomore pitcher held Brewer to two hits and three unearned runs over six innings while hitting a two-run double and the winning RBI single to help the No. 12 Rams knock off the No. 5 Witches 4-3 in an Eastern Maine Class A preliminary game. Besse also picked up a 6-0 win over Nokomis last week, pitching a three-hitter and adding an RBI double.

Small School (Classes C-D)

KATE KIRBY

Kirby, a senior on the No. 3 Orono tennis team, won both her quarterfinal and semifinal matches in the Eastern Maine Class C team tennis playoffs, beating Van Buren’s Amber Martin 6-2, 6-2 in the semis and Fort Kent’s Melinda Plourde 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. The Red Riots are the defending EM champs.
