Economic prosperity conference

BANGOR – Penquis Community Action Program’s fifth annual Economic Prosperity Conference will take place Tuesday, June 13, at the G. Clifton Eames Center in Bangor. Sponsored in part by Bangor Savings Bank, the conference, “Supporting Children and Families: Building Prosperous Communities,” will focus on the economic impact of assuring that children grow up in a supportive, stable and nurturing environment.

The keynote speaker, Maine Attorney General Steve Rowe, Maine first lady Karen Baldacci and panelists will discuss the positive economic impact that can occur when communities offer support to families.

During the morning segment, panelists will discuss various needs and issues facing children. In the afternoon, the focus will be on how specific organizations and communities have acted to meet the needs of families.

At the conference, Penquis CAP will announce the winner of its 2006 Family Friendly Employer Award.

Registration fee for the conference is $55 and includes conference materials and lunch.

New location for phone store

BANGOR – U.S. Cellular has moved to a new location at 33 Mid-Mall Boulevard.

The new store is designed to guide customers through each step of the buying process, from selecting a rate plan to choosing the best phone and wireless accessories.

The Bangor store features seven consulting stations, as well as product information displays, a service technician window and live wireless phone demonstration stations.

The new store is staffed by 17 associates, including two service technicians, and will be open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 942-5218 for more information.

Maine Credit Union League

WESTBROOK – At the Maine Credit Union League’s recent Annual Meeting & Convention, the league announced the election of its slate of officers for 2006-2007.

All officers were re-elected, including Ralph Ferland as chairman. Ferland is president and CEO of Eastern Maine Medical Center Federal Credit Union in Bangor.

Formed in 1938, the Maine Credit Union League is the State Trade Association for Maine’s 72 affiliated credit unions providing a variety of services and products.
