Hampden figure skater Tessa McCue, 20, is back on the ice after taking six weeks to recover from January compartment syndrome surgery in Palm Beach, Florida. Because of the incision above her right ankle, she was unable to lace up skates until the injury healed.
Compartment syndrome occurs when blood and other nutrients are unable to reach muscles in the lower leg due to an increase in tissue pressure around the calf.
McCue, who is training with coach Alexey Ulanov, is landing double jumps and working her way back to triple jumps. She is amidst two-week trial period, training and meeting coaches in Los Angeles. She hopes to compete in Senior Ladies in the fall season.
