A Bangor woman was hospitalized Thursday after the car she was driving went off the road and into a small stream.

Valerie Guevara, 42, was treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center and later released from the Bangor hospital, a nursing supervisor said. Guevara suffered bruises and abrasions on her face, according to the police report.

The early-morning crash occurred near the intersection of Griffin Road and Maine Avenue, near the entrance of the 101st Air Refueling Wing of the Maine Air National Guard. Witnesses reported that Guevara was traveling at a high rate of speed and passed one motorist before crossing the intersection and going off the road.

Guevara told Bangor responders that she had recently undergone surgery and was taking medications. As part of the investigation procedures, a blood sample was taken at the hospital.

Authorities are investigating a crash on Route 7 in Dixmont early Thursday morning at which a car went off the road and the driver fled the scene.

The accident occurred about 9:40 a.m. and involved a 2005 Toyota Corolla, although when authorities arrived, the driver was gone, reported Sgt. Scott Young of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office. The accident is still under investigation.

A Bangor woman left her Center Street apartment briefly Wednesday night, and when she returned she noticed her door was ajar and nearly $3,500 of her property was missing. The items taken included 500 CDs, 50 DVDs, a DVD player and some medications.

Bangor police Officer Steve Jordan found marks and damage to the door that were consistent with someone forcing the door open, although the resident said she thought the damage was done previously.
