GARDINER – Corey Cushing scattered seven hits while getting eight strikeouts and issuing two walks to lead the fifth-seeded Brewer Witches past the No. 4 Gardiner Tigers in Eastern Maine Class A quarterfinal baseball action Friday.
Cushing and Mitch Peasley each singled and scored a run in the second inning and the Witches added the winning margin with runs in the third and sixth.
Nick Acheson, Will Phelps and Mike Burdin each hit a double for Gardiner.

David Benner hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Rockland and Ben Baudanza-Sturks had two singles and an RBI. Josh Elwell doubled and Mike Marsh hit an RBI single.

Amy Hackett had three singles, a double, and a triple for the Rams. Tawyna Godinez had three singles and a double. Kelly White singled twice. Amy Wadleigh relieved Sam Besse in the fourth and pitched 12 innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while notching five strikeouts.
