DYER BROOK – A Westfield man died on Friday night of injuries he suffered when his pickup truck struck a moose on Interstate 95 near Dyer Brook.
Murle Masters, 49, died upon arrival at the Houlton Regional Hospital shortly after the accident on the northbound lane of the interstate.
Masters was driving north about 9:15 p.m. when a moose ran into the roadway, according to Sgt. Julie Bergan of the Maine State Police.
Bergan said Masters suffered severe head and neck trauma.
Carla Masters, 48, of Westfield, was a passenger in the vehicle driven by her husband. She escaped injury.
The northbound lane of I-95 was closed to traffic for about 90 minutes after the accident. Masters’ 1993 Toyota pickup truck was destroyed in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Joshua Birmingham of the Maine State Police. He was assisted at the scene by Bergan and Trooper Darrin Crane.
