As a high school English teacher, I’m always on the lookout for fine writing to share with my students. Dr. Erik Steele’s column, “Never underestimate the power of one” (BDN, June 6), sent me scurrying for the scissors to clip it and read it to my 11th-graders at Searsport District High School.
Dr. Steele’s inspirational column is just what the doctor ordered for today’s jaded youth. I’m betting it will prompt them to act, not react. To engage, not disengage.
I teach a unit each year on the theme of “the moment of truth.” Dr. Steele presented a litany of such moments, and the hope that everyday people can participate.
