AUGUSTA – Monica White struck out nine and hit an RBI double as the No. 2 Cony Rams knocked off the defending Class A state champion Messalonskee Eagles of Oakland 3-0 in the Eastern Maine Class A softball championship game at Cony Park.
Messalonskee was undefeated and ranked No. 1 going into the game.
Kristi Violette hit an RBI single to plate Megan Steiman in the first inning. Jess Golden walked and eventually scored on White’s double. Golden recorded an RBI when her fourth-inning double drove in Molly Hopkins. Steiman finished with three singles.
Stacey Stewart and Amanda Barker each singled for the Eagles. Barker walked four and struck out two in her first loss of the season.
