FARMINGTON – A Jay man who fired on officers responding to a domestic disturbance last week was charged with aggravated attempted murder and reckless conduct with a firearm after his release from the hospital, officials said Tuesday.
The charges were filed against William Burhoe as he was released Monday night from Central Maine Medical Center.
Burhoe, 51, had been treated at the Lewiston hospital since getting shot in the leg by a trooper who returned fire.
The episode unfolded late on June 6, as officers responded to a report of a disturbance in Jay involving Burhoe and his son. Police said Burhoe fired a rifle at the officers and Trooper Randall Keaten returned fire.
Burhoe was being held at Franklin County Jail in Farmington and Keaten remained on administrative leave with pay as the attorney general’s office investigated the shooting.
