BANGOR – Penobscot Theatre has released an artist’s rendering of the Bangor Opera House’s exterior renovation.
“This building was once the showpiece of Bangor’s Main Street,” said Scott R.C. Levy, artistic director of the Penobscot Theatre Company. “We’re counting on our community to work with us to restore the Bangor Opera House to its well-deserved grandeur.”
The artistic rendering by Penobscot Theatre set and costume designer Lex Liang details the simple architectural elegance and Egyptian-inspired art deco design of the Opera House, which was built in 1920.
“Our restoration drive looks deeper than the exterior of the building,” added Levy. “We must modernize stage equipment and greatly improve disability access to this landmark so we can meet today’s standards of accessibility, safety and security.”
Two benefit shows by Maine humorist Tim Sample on June 10, launched the company’s fundraising effort to restore the Opera House.
Donations to the Opera House Restoration Fund may be made by calling the Penobscot Theatre Company at 942-3333 or at (877) PTC-TIXX. Donations also may be made at 131 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401, or www.penobscottheatre.org.
