We have a lot to talk about this week. It’s that time again when stations launch new shows along with new seasons of our favorites and not-so-favorites.
While I can’t reveal all the details, and the premiere episode copy I received isn’t supposed to be used for reviewing purposes, I can tell you that NBC’s “Treasure Hunters” is one to watch.
If you liked “Indiana Jones” or “National Treasure” or are just up for an adventure and a little bit of mystery, tune in at 8 p.m. Sunday for a two-hour premiere.
While the show is slightly like “The Amazing Race,” there is one big twist. Teams are racing to a destination in search of hidden treasure. They must decipher clues and endure grueling physical and mental challenges along the way.
The competition is tough and diverse. Competitors include a group of ex-CIA guys, Miss USA beauty queens, three South Boston boys, students, family members and friends.
What is the big treasure they’re searching for? Your guess is as good as mine. We’ll all just have to watch.
“Treasure Hunters” might be my favorite this week, but I have to mention “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.”
Griffin went to Iraq at 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, to bring a little laughter to the troops. While I’m not a huge Griffin fan, I must say she’s finding her niche.
Also this week, a few words of caution on what NOT to watch.
It seems like every week I say that reality TV has reached a new low, but nothing could be worse than what’s on Animal Planet starting June 16.
“Meow Mix House” is being shown in three-minute segments during the 9 p.m. Friday timeslot for 10 weeks.
As for the competitors – yes, they’re really cats.
Ten cats have been picked from animal shelters nationwide and will “compete” in a “Survivor”-like show to win an executive-level job with Meow Mix cat food. What happened to Morris?
No matter which feline becomes the fat cat, they’re all winners because once they’re eliminated by the panel of judges, each will be given a permanent home and year’s supply of Meow Mix cat food.
The idea is to raise awareness of the importance of animal adoptions. Even though the concept sounds WAY too far out there, even I can support a little craziness for a good cause.
