Doucette takes Unity victory

UNITY – Sidney’s Darren Doucette made his season debut at Unity Raceway Saturday night and picked up right where he left off last season, by taking both segments of the Sun Auto & Salvage Mini Truck Twin 25’s.

Doucette had to battle Kevin Nutting of Benton side by side with a handful of laps remaining, but Doucette passed him with two laps remaining in the second segment.

Shawmut’s Chad Elkins finished third in both segments to edge Nutting for second by one point. Fourth went to Adam Roy and fifth to Jamie Foster.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford Saturday, local boy Kim Tripp of Oxford matched teammate Shane Green’s record for most career wins by taking the Strictly Stock division race after leading all but five of the 100-lap feature.

Tripp’s first win of this season is the 18th of his career. He finished ahead of runner-up Jeff Moon of Gray. Guy Childs of Turner was third, Zach Emerson of Durham fourth, and Dixfield’s Tommy Tompkins fifth.

Moore finishes 27th

At Brooklyn, Mich., Ryan Moore finished 27th in the Conway Freight 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. Saturday. He started 23rd.

Johnny Benson won the race.

It was Moore’s fourth race with the Key Motorsports team.

Winterport Dragway

At Winterport, Joe Damon of South Paris had a solid weekend at Winterport Dragway. He won the Super Pro/Pro final over runner-up Jay Galusha of Clinton and the Pro Eliminator race.

Right behind Galusha in the Eliminator were Lubec’s Jerry Hatch and Winteport’s Robin Reynolds.

Wiscasset Raceway

At Wiscasset Saturday, fair skies and sunshine finally greeted racers and fans after four weeks of postponements due to rain and Wiscasset Raceway was anything but silent.

Appleton’s Jeremy Glasier and Liberty’s Josh St. Clair were obviously primed to race as they each came away with wins in the super street and late-model sportsman races, respectively.

Speedway 95

At Hermon Saturday, race two of the three-race Coca-Cola series for Limited Sportsmen went to Brent Parritt of Steuben. Parritt took the lead on a lap-three caution and held on for the rest of the race. Jason Witt of Bangor faded to a distant second as Parritt crossed the finish line half a lap ahead of the rest of the field.

Bob Seger Jr. finished third after being sent to the rear of the field by track management for allowing his pit crew to work on his car while lined up on the front stretch for introductions. Nick Jenkins of Milo and Stephen Swanson of Trenton finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
