Sangerville woman hurt in car crash

A Sangerville woman was injured Sunday and admitted to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft after she rolled the vehicle she was driving into a ditch on Greeley’s Landing Road in Dover-Foxcroft, police said.

Tiffany Sprague, 18, was driving from Sebec Lake at around 3 p.m. when she lost control of her 2001 Ford Focus near Gilman Hill corner, according to Lt. Scott Arno of the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department.

“Speed does appear to be a factor,” Arno said Sunday, describing the location of the accident as “a winding, fairly steep hill that is notorious [for] accidents of this type.”

A 16-year-old and a 12-year-old, both girls, and an infant were passengers in the vehicle. The infant, who was restrained in a child safety seat, was the only one in the vehicle wearing a seat belt, police said.

All four were transported to Mayo Regional Hospital, where the passengers were treated and released.

Sprague, who had possible head injuries, was admitted to the hospital as a precaution because she is pregnant, according to Arno.

Dover-Foxcroft police Officers Richard Polk and David Smith, as well as Chief Dennis Dyer, responded to the scene.

The vehicle was destroyed in the accident, according to police reports.

An accident Saturday sent a Winterport woman to the hospital, and her small dog to a local veterinary clinic, after the car they were in went off the road and stuck a utility poll in Hampden.

Kay Bennett, 66, was driving on Main Road South around 4 p.m. when she fell asleep at the wheel of her 1998 Oldsmobile, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, according to Hampden police Officer Scott Jakins.

Jakins said Bennett was wearing a seat belt.

Bennett was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Jakins. She was listed in fair condition Sunday night.

Bennett’s small dog was taken to Brewer Veterinary Clinic in Brewer to be examined.

The vehicle was destroyed in the crash, according to Jakins.
