UBS, Union Street split opening doubleheader

BANGOR – UBS of Bangor and Union Street Cleaners split their first Bay League games of the season as UBS won the first game of a doubleheader 4-3 and Union Street rallied for a 4-1 victory in the nightcap at the Winkin Complex.

In the first game, Jeff Miller’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth scored the go-ahead run and what proved to be a critical insurance run for UBS. James Gray had two singles and notched the win in relief.

Josh Young allowed six hits while striking out 11 and walking one for Union Street. Willie Bard hit two singles.

In the second game, Travis Tripp carried a no-hitter into the sixth, but lost that, the shutout, and the game as Union Street scored three runs in the inning.

Bard’s RBI single broke up the no-hit bid and Darrin Daniels added an RBI single in the same inning.

Chris McInnis had two singles and three stolen bases for UBS.

Aerus Electrolux wins two

At Hermon, Aerus Electrolux opened the season with two wins over AAA, 8-1 and 2-0.

In the first game, Randy Renaud belted a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth and Mark Farnham struck out 11 as Aerus cruised to the win. Nate Hall (two singles) and Brian McGinley (single) each scored two runs.

Paul Hermon had two singles and two RBI and Travis Estes added a single for AAA.

In the second game, McGinley singled, tripled and had an RBI as Aerus held on for the win. Renaud had an RBI double for the winners.

Tyler Wilson and Jake Arthurs singled for AAA.

Dovetail sweeps Woodman’s

At Dover-Foxcroft, Chad Gomm struck out 10 and Micah Dougherty fanned nine as host Dovetail took two from Woodman’s of Orono, 1-0 and 9-4.

In the first game, Will Hinkley tallied a single for Dovetail’s only hit.

Chris Pease struck out 13 and had Woodman’s lone hit, a single.

In the second game, Garrett Parker had two singles, a triple and an RBI for the winners.

John Flynn added a two-run single and Tim Nason doubled.

Mark Weston singled twice, had a double and drove in a run for Woodman’s.

Montville sweeps Movingme.com

At Searsport, Nate Hall struck out 15 batters in the first game and Bob Withee had three singles and two RBIs, including the game-winner, to lead Montville to 9-1 and 5-4 Bay League wins over Movingme.com of Bangor here Sunday.

In the first game, Hall allowed six hits but no walks. Roland Littlefield gave him all the runs he’d need in the first with a three-run homer. Tom Dennen had two singles and three RBIs while Gerald Hews had an RBI double.

Brian Shaw singled twice and Ryan Logan hit an RBI double for Movingme.com.

In the second game, Withee’s sacrifice fly with no outs in the eighth plated Jamie Potvin with the winning run.

George Tripp had a double and a single, and Dennen hit an RBI double.

For Movingme.com, Ryan Schwab had three singles and Ryan Logan had two.
