Bangor woman arrested after incident with knife

A Bangor woman was arrested after threatening her partner with a butcher knife Sunday night, according to reports.

Police went to a Longrale Park home at 8:30 p.m. after a 60-year-old woman said an argument had escalated and she feared for her life.

The woman said her partner, Virginia Lafond, 69, had held a knife to her neck and said, “I will slit your throat,” police reported.

Both individuals were intoxicated, according to Bangor police Officer Chris Desmond.

Lafond was arrested and charged with criminal threatening.

Two moneybags containing about $90 in cash and goods were taken over the weekend from a safe at the Bangor treasury office on Harlow Street, police said.

A City Hall employee reported the burglary Monday morning.

One bag contained $60 for the office drinking-water fund, according to reports. The other held 75 37-cent postage stamps.

Someone entered the office by pushing in the window air-conditioning unit, police reported. The individual was able to open the safe by cracking the combination or because the door was not shut properly.

Nothing else in the office was disturbed.

Detectives took over the investigation. They have no suspects.

A Kenduskeag woman stopped early Monday morning for erratic driving was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants and possession of marijuana.

Bangor police Officer Edward A. Mercier pulled over a 1997 Ford Escort on outer Broadway at 12:24 a.m. after it swerved near the grass shoulder and toward the centerline.

As Mercier approached the vehicle, Lori Russell, 42, handed him a large amount of credit cards as identification and stated the car wasn’t her vehicle, according to reports.

Mercier could not smell intoxicants in the vehicle but noticed a pipe containing marijuana in the ashtray. Russell’s eyes appeared bloodshot, but she said she had not had anything to drink, according to reports.

After Mercier returned to his police cruiser, Russell got out of her car and staggered over to him, reports stated. She admitted to having two drinks, police said.

Tests revealed Russell’s blood alcohol level to be 0.15.
