WALDOBORO – Town meeting voters passed all but one article Thursday, postponing a decision to put 315 acres off Depot Road into conservation forever.

The draft conservation plan for Quarry Hill Farm was postponed, Town Manager Lee Smith said Monday, to gather more public comment and information to be reviewed for a November referendum.

The result of the town meeting is a $3,091,816 municipal budget for 2007 that is up 4.5 percent over last year. The amount to be raised by property taxes or net budget is $965,335, up 4.99 percent from the previous year.

The town’s share of Lincoln County taxes is $507,655, up 36.2 percent, which is due to the new Two Bridges Jail being constructed jointly by Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.

SAD 40’s assessment to Waldoboro is $3,866,619, which brings a 5.68 percent increase because of a change in the cost-sharing formula.

On Monday, Smith did not know what effect the budget will have on the current tax rate of $12.70 per $1,000 of assessed value.
