Consolante among finalists for AE award

The University of Maine’s Linda Consolante, who was named the America East Defender of the Year for the second time in her Black Bear soccer career this past season, is one of three finalists for the league’s Woman of the Year Award.

The field was whittled down from nine to three on Wednesday.

The other finalists are Albany standout volleyball player Ashlee Reed, a three-time all-conference selection, and Stony Brook lacrosse star Marrisa Trachtenberg, a two-time all-AE choice.

The award is given to the senior female student-athlete who best exemplifies a commitment to service, leadership, athletics and academics during her career.

Consolante, a member of the 2003 Canadian World Cup team, is a four-time All-AE pick.

The award will be presented on Sunday at the league’s annual meetings in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The recipient’s name will be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee and 10 finalists will be chosen in each NCAA Division (I, II, III).
