PORTLAND – The Boston Red Sox signed former University of Maine lefthander Rusty Tucker and assigned him to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs Saturday.
Tucker, a 25-year-old native of Gloucester, Mass., started the season with the Chicago White Sox Double-A affiliate Birmingham Barons. He had a 1-2 record with a 8.77 earned run average in 20 appearances.
He is the second former UMaine player to join the Sea Dogs following Pete Fisher in 2005. Tucker was picked by the Padres in the 21st round of the 2001 draft.
