Regarding the article, “Boilermakers, Katahdin Paper fail to agree on factory building” (BDN, June 10-11). Millinocket Town Manager Gene Conlogue expressed surprise that the deal fell through. It doesn’t surprise me; as when you sit back and look over our situation it has dawned on me that no one wants jobs here.
Since they would like Moscone Bantam Boiler Co. LLC and local businessman Bob Moscone to locate in Medway, doesn’t that look like they don’t want business with jobs to locate in Millinocket?
Conlogue further states that Millinocket Area Growth and Investment Council, or MAGIC, is a quasi-public agency funded by East Millinocket, Medway and Millinocket to create business and economic opportunity in those towns.
If Bantam Boiler is a fantastic product that can be utilized to create jobs in the region, why isn’t it happening?
A little shop came into Millinocket and has already left. Wonder why?
Local businesswoman Carla Portwine told readers the way it was for her – she made it without the help of MAGIC.
Good for her and I wish her all the best.
