GORHAM – Lisa Petruccelli, a former All-State soccer player at Cape Elizabeth High, has been named the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Southern Maine.
Petruccelli succeeds Steve Quinones, who resigned after eight seasons (65-69-8) to pursue other opportunities.
“I want to continue taking the program in a positive direction, to win the (Little East Conference), and go to the national tournament,” said Petruccelli, who for the last two seasons was the head coach at SUNY-Potsdam.
Petruccelli played four seasons at Smith College and graduated in 1992 with a B.S. in biology. She was as an assistant coach at the University of New England and a grad assistant at Maryland for one season each before becoming the University of Maine’s interim women’s head coach in 1994.
She then guided the University of Wisconsin-Stout to a 27-41-5 record in four seasons before returning to Maine in 1999 to spend the next five years as an assistant coach with the Bowdoin College women’s soccer program.
