Ambassadors of Patriotism

BANGOR – The Cole Land Transportation Museum at 405 Perry Road has seen a marked increase in visits from schoolchildren this spring.

Museum founder Galen Cole said that classes from 52 schools, comprising a total of 2,778 students, took the opportunity to visit the facility.

Thirty schools, from Fort Kent, Calais and Deer Isle to Auburn and Gray, brought 1,635 youngsters to meet with the museum’s Ambassadors of Patriotism.

The pupils met in small groups with a veteran who had volunteered to be interviewed about their experiences in the service and their views on patriotism. The youngsters also watched a brief video about the World War II Memorial on the museum grounds, and promised that they would go home and interview a veteran in their family.

Those who would like to sign up a class to visit the museum in the fall may call 990-3600.
