Sun Trek crew seeks elusive rays

Captain’s Log: Summer 2006 – the continuing mission of Sun Trek, as the crew of Sunship Enterprise explores space in search of the elusive sun.

Morning fog shrouds the bay where another cruise ship blasts its horn in a final approach to unseen destination. Mr. Spock reports gargantuan slugs on the leaves of lupine.

Evening thunder, louder than Fourth of July fireworks, rattles the spaceship as well as nerves.

This month to date, 6.83 inches of rain have fallen – double the normal amount calculated by Lt. Sulu, who checked his logs of the previous spring and summer and has deduced the word “normal” may lend itself to ambiguity.

Our day length for Sunship Enterprise is allegedly 15:34 hours on this date; however, the Captain’s Log must reflect that from the windows of the spaceship, dawn and dusk appear the same. Mr. Spock confirms loons crying continuously.

Tonight, after sunset, the crew should be on the lookout for a thin crescent moon low in the west-northwest above Mercury and right of Saturn. Questions for Lt. Cmdr. Scott: How will we know it’s sunset? Where exactly are Mercury and Saturn?

Mr. Spock expresses concern over mildew issues within the cockpit and algae on the slippery decks.

Afternoon drizzle continues for 67th day while the Enterprise crew resolves the problem of “overweight” signals beeping in the cargo space by dumping out cases of sunscreen. Mr. Spock reports to the Captain regarding the dangers of snapping turtles suddenly surfacing from swollen space-bogs.

Dr. McCoy warns of monster mosquitoes. (P.S. He privately shares his anxieties over this year’s blueberry crop, despite plentiful blossoms early on; he fears there is little hope for the cherry tree.)

Mr. Spock suggests loading the iPod with “You Are My Sunshine,” “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” even “Sonny,” which, in the Captain’s view, may be a stretch.
