Don E. Reynolds, chief of staff of the Maine Air National Guard, presented the award during ceremonies held at Camp Keyes in Augusta.

The prestigious award was established to recognize and honor the most deserving Maine Air National Guard enlisted member.

Baillargeon, a 1990 graduate of Brewer High School, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force that year and was deployed overseas in support of Operation Desert Storm and Provide Comfort. During that period, he was recommended for the Airman’s Medal.

During the past eight years Baillargeon has received extensive training in counter-terrorism activities and drug investigations. He also is a certified American Red Cross First Aid instructor.

In the past two years he has deployed to several oversea locations as well as other locations in the United States. Most recently while deployed, he was recognized by the Security Forces commander for excellence. In addition to his on-base volunteerism efforts, he currently serves as Maine’s Region 12 Leg Leader for the Special Olympics of Maine, Law Enforcement Torch Run and is a member of the SAD 63 board of directors.

Baillargeon’s post secondary education includes an associate degree in criminal justice from the Community College of the Air Force, a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from the University of Maine, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University, graduating as valedictorian. His extensive practical and educational criminal justice background has been put to use as an adjunct professor at the University of Maine at Augusta and an instructor in the law enforcement program at Beal College in Bangor.

Baillargeon’s military awards include, in part, the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Expert Ribbon and Kuwait Liberation Medal.
