PORTLAND – Former Deering of Portland and University of Maryland forward Nik Caner-Medley, who was not picked in Wednesday night’s NBA draft, has been invited to play for the Detroit Pistons in the upcoming NBA Vegas Summer League scheduled for July 6-14 in Las Vegas.
Caner-Medley’s hopes of being selected late in the second round were dashed when NBA teams opted to look to Europe or Africa for six of the final 10 selections in the two-round draft.
But according to published reports, the 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward said Thursday that he had agreed to join the Pistons’ summer league team.
Caner-Medley was a four-year starter at Maryland who finished his career ranked among the Terrapins’ career leaders in scoring and rebounding. He was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference choice.
