BANGOR-BREWER

Greater Bangor Kiwanis Clubs will sponsor the annual Fourth of July Parade beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, at the junction of Wilson Street and Acme Road, not far from the Brewer Auditorium in Brewer.

Units for the parade will form beginning at 10 a.m. Parking space for veterans’ parades will be saved on the Wilson Street side of the auditorium.

The parade will follow the traditional route, down Wilson Street, across the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, then right onto Main Street in Bangor. The reviewing stand will be at West Market Square downtown. The parade will proceed along State Street and turn right onto Exchange Street to disband.

Veterans will be interested to know that First Student will furnish three buses to take those who are unable to walk the 11/2-mile route. In addition, some of the vets who plan to march may wait in the bus before the parade.

World War II veterans, Korean War veterans and Vietnam veterans will march together at the head of the parade. They will form on Wilson Street, under the trees beside the municipal swimming pool, with buses parked at the curb.

The Walter Hunt Memorial 3K Race will begin just before the parade, at 10:45 a.m. at the Brewer Auditorium, with runners preceding the parade.

The parade will disband on Exchange Street in Bangor. After the parade, buses from First Bus will take the veterans, both marchers and riders, back to Brewer to pick up their cars.

Fireworks will be hosted by the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club at 9:15 p.m. over the Penobscot River.

The Joshua Chamberlain Bridge will be closed to motorized traffic beginning at 7 p.m. in order for pedestrians to cross. There is a $1 charge for those who want to watch the fireworks from the bridge itself.

The Bangor Band will participate in the Fourth of July Parade at 11 a.m. July 4 and then will give a concert at 7 p.m. at the bandstand at Bass Park on Main Street.

St. John’s Organ Society, American Music to Celebrate Independence Day, 7:30 p.m. July 4, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St.

Shaw’s Supermarket will ask for a donation to park in the Main Street lot from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A barbecue fundraiser also will be held outside from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit Healthcare Charities’ Children’s Miracle Network of Easter Maine Healthcare Systems.

BAR HARBOR

There will be a pancake breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. July 4 on the town ball field. The parade, with a theme of “Fun in the Sun,” begins at 10 a.m. at the YMCA on Park Street and winds through town.

The seafood festival runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the town ball field. There will be lobster races at noon at the town ball field. The All-Star Magical Revue, a vaudeville show starts at 2 p.m. at the Criterion Theatre.

There is a performance by the Bar Harbor Town Band at 7:30 p.m. on the Village Green and fireworks over Frenchman Bay begin at 9 p.m. on the waterfront.

BREWER

The Bangor Noon Kiwanis Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. July 4 at Brewer Auditorium, including, as always, fresh-picked strawberries on the side.

BURLINGTON

Local events begin at 6:30 a.m. July 4 with a pancake breakfast at Ye Old Tavern off Route 188 and continue at 9:30 a.m. with a children’s parade along 1.5 miles of Main Street (Route 188) from the top of the hill past the Burlington General Store.

The Grand Parade, covering the same route, will take place at 10 a.m. A jam session of area musicians will take place at 1 p.m. on the Town Green, along with Carnival Beano at VFW Hall off Route 188 and a potluck picnic at the Town Green off Route 188.

CUTLER

Events start Monday, July 3, with children’s activity games at the town ball field from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a community potluck picnic at 5 p.m., also at the ball field.

On July 4, the 22nd annual Cutler Harbor 5k starts at the Bay Ridge School at 8 a.m. (for registration, call Andy Patterson at 259-4484). A grand parade leaves the town office at 10:05 a.m., marching to the town circle.

Traditional games for kids – cracker eating, Coke drinking, bubble gum chewing and penny scramble – follow at 11 a.m. at the town park. Lobster boat races go at 3 p.m., followed by crate races at 4 p.m.

EASTBROOK

GREENVILLE

All-day activities begin at 9 a.m. Monday, July 3, at the Junction Wharf and will include a craft fair, food vendors and a pie-baking contest. Live entertainment will be featured from 7 to 9 p.m. at the wharf with fireworks starting at 9 p.m.

Lineup for the parade begins at 10 a.m. July 4 in the Indian Hill parking lot. The procession starts at 11 a.m.

JONESPORT

The Tall Barney Pageant is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Beals Elementary School.

July 4 events include a 7 a.m. blueberry pancake breakfast, an 8 a.m. road race and at 10 a.m., the “World’s Fastest Lobster Boat Races.” The grand parade is at 4 p.m., with lineup at 2:30 p.m. at Trynor Square. Fireworks at dusk follow from Kelley Point Campground.

LIMESTONE

There are daylong activities July 4 starting with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast and ending with fireworks. In between there are games, religious services, Humvee rides, dancing music, a duck race and events at Trafton Lake.

Aroostook County’s longest continuous parade starts at 1 p.m. There also will be a light parade on Trafton Lake at dusk.

LUBEC

On Monday, July 3, fish chowder and a bazaar are offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Games for youth and adults take place at 10:30 a.m. at the boat ramp and boat races take place starting at noon. The revived boat races include a Rum Runners boat race for rowers, plus lobster boats, clam boats and speed boats all competing in separate categories.

Also on Monday is a salmon relay race at 2 p.m., at the boat ramp, followed at 3:30 p.m. the Mr. and Mrs. Lubecker contest at the school. Fireworks follow at 9 p.m.

For Tuesday, a doll carriage parade for children starts at 9:30 a.m. A chicken barbecue starts at 11 a.m. by the Lions Club and the grand parade goes at 6 p.m. For more information about all events, call the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce at 695-2702.

MILLINOCKET

A parade will be held at 11 a.m. July 4 beginning at the former Ames department store parking lot and continuing through downtown.

A raffle prize giveaway will take place at 4 p.m. The Mark Miller Band will perform live at a street dance from 6 to 9 p.m., and fireworks will be held at 9:30 p.m. For more information, contact Richard Waller at 723-4533.

OLD TOWN

Food and Medicine and the Eastern Maine Labor Council will hold Fourth of July festivities at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, behind the union hall in Eastern Park. Organizers are encouraging the public to bring chili for their second annual chili cook-off. There also will be a barbecue, music and speakers at the event.

PORTAGE LAKE

A parade will be held at noon Sunday, July 9. The public is invited to attend and participate. Those participating in the parade should arrive at 11:30 a.m. For information, contact Rena Belange, parade organizer.

PRESQUE ISLE

The Elks Lodge will sponsor a Fourth of July celebration, which will include a car show at Riverside Park in Presque Isle beginning at 10 a.m.

PROSPECT

The Keach family will play a combination of Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, folk and gospel music starting at 1 p.m. at the Fort Knox Historic site. THOMASTON

Fourth of July events begin with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Masonic Temple. Parade at 11 a.m. down Main Street with bands, bikes, Boy Scouts, clowns. Two road races are planned: at 8 a.m., a firecracker race for kids, which is a 1K run along Beechwood Street; at 8:30 a.m., a 5K adult race begins. Sign-up for both races is 7:30 a.m. behind Coldwell Banker SoundVest Properties; 9:15 p.m. fireworks display. Rain date for fireworks is July 5.
