PHOENIX – Former University of Maine goalie Mike Morrison signed a one-year contract Sunday with the Phoenix Coyotes after playing 25 games last season for Edmonton and Ottawa.
Morrison goalie posted a 11-4-3 record in his first year in the NHL with a 2.95 goals-against average and .882 save percentage. He was 10-4-2 with a 2.83 GAA and a .884 save percentage for Edmonton but became expendable after the Oilers traded for Dwayne Roloson. Ottawa, looking for insurance while Dominik Hasek recovered from a groin injury, claimed Morrison off waivers.
Morrison, who will turn 27 on July 11, was 1-0-1 with a 3.47 GAA and .875 save percentage with the Senators.
His signing came a day after Ed Jovanovski agreed to a five-year deal with the Coyotes as part of the team’s effort to upgrade its defense.
