HAMDPEN – Evan Farley pitched a two-hit shutout with three walks and 10 strikeouts to lead Hampden to the 15-0 win over Presque Isle in the opener on Saturday in American Legion baseball action. Hampden also won the second game 8-6.

In the first game, Tim Kennerson hit a single and a two-run home run for Hampden. Chris Morris hit a single and two doubles to drive in two runs and Shawn Smith singled twice and scored three runs.

Matt Kinney and Michael Cleary singled for Presque Isle.

In the second game, Smith hit three singles to knock in a run and Farley added two singles and an RBI. Joey Neill had two singles and two runs and Patrick Stephens doubled.

Cleary had a double and two singles with two RBIs for Presque Isle and Tyler Lamoureaux singled twice to drive in a run.

At Mansfield Stadium Saturday, Ian Edwards tossed a three-hitter in the opener and Anthony DeRosa fired a two-hitter in the nightcap as Bangor swept Calais.

Edwards struck out eight and didn’t walk anybody and he was backed by a 12-hit attack.

Shane Walton had three singles, scored three times and had an RBI to pace the Comrades. Scott Hackett had two singles and drove in three runs and Jimmy Cox had a three-run triple.

Tom Pottle had an RBI single for Calais.

In the nightcap, DeRosa struck out six and walked five over five innings and Gordy Webb sparked another 12-hit attack with a triple, two singles and two RBIs.

Walton doubled and singled and knocked in a pair; Cox hit two singles and had two RBIs and Jordan Clarke singled twice and had an RBI.

Justin LeBlanc had an RBI single for Calais and Aaron Sullivan had a base hit.

Waldo, Trenton split

At Blue Hill, Brandon Gardner hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to drive in Mike Cummons for the go-ahead run and lead Waldo by Trenton in the second game Saturday.

Trenton defeated Waldo in the first game 7-3.

In the first game, Lucas Marks hit a solo home run while Andy Pooler had two singles and two RBIs for Trenton.

Cummons hit a single and a double for Waldo.

In the second game, Miles Davey singled twice while Cummons added a single.

A.J. Pennartz and Phineas Peake each hit two singles for Trenton.

At Brewer, Tony Derosa hit a three-run home run and single and Kyle Leeman chipped in with a two-run homer and single to help lead Bangor by Brewer on Sunday.

Tom Crews contributed a solo homer, triple and single for the winners while Scott Hackett added a solo shot and sacrifice fly. Gordon Webb had three doubles and an RBI and Shane Walton doubled twice, singled and drove in a run.

Joe Robicheau paced Brewer with a solo home run, two singles and three RBIs. Prentiss Swett added two singles and a double and Eddie Robbins had three singles. Ricky Adams chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

Penquis, Brewer split

At Brewer on Saturday, Danny Beatham doubled, tripled and drove in two runs to lead Penquis by Brewer 10-9 in the first game of a doubleheader, but Brewer rebounded in the second game for a 9-3 win behind two singles and two RBIs from Prentiss Swett and a Cam Wadleigh two-run double.

In the first game, Eric Day chipped in with a three-run double for Penquis, Joey Kane added a two-run single and Danny Kane singled twice.

Chris Maguire singled twice, doubled and had three RBIs for Brewer while Joe Robicheau had two doubles, a single and RBI. Swett contributed a double and two singles.

In the second game, Maguire singled twice and drove in a run for Brewer and Brad Brown added two sacrifice flies. Robicheau and Matt Jackson each added an RBI double.

Tim McCarthy and Day each hit an RBI single for Penquis.

UBS sweeps Montville

At Husson College in Bangor, Kyle Mathieu singled twice to drive in two runs and also stole two bases to help lead UBS Financial Services of Bangor past Montville 4-2 in the first game. UBS also won the second game 4-2.

In the first game, Jeff Miller hit a two-run single in the second inning for UBS.

Nate Hall recorded 12 strikeouts and also hit an RBI fielder’s choice for Montville and George Tripp doubled.

In the second game, Chris McInnis hit three singles and knocked in a run for UBS. Miller doubled and singled with an RBI and Mathieu had two singles and an RBI. Craig Harvey doubled.

Jamie Potvin singled twice and scored a run for Montville and Tom Dennen singled and drove in a run.

Union Street sweeps

At Hermon High School, Union Street Cleaners mustered only seven hits in Sunday’s doubleheader but rode the pitching performances of Josh Young and Brad Wheaton to 2-1 (8 innings) and 4-2 wins over MovingMe.com.

Righty Young scattered seven hits in the opener, striking out six and walking two, to ouduel lefty Cole McElwain, who fired a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks.

Willy Baird walked and scored the game-winning run in the eighth. He went to second on a Brian Hackett single and scored on a pair of fielder’s choices with Darren Daniels picking up the RBI.

Anthony Shaw doubled and singled for MovingMe. Com and James Strout singled twice.

Wheaton tossed a six-hitter in the nightcap, striking out four and walking two, and Hackett broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run double in the seventh.

Kyle Dalton pitched six innings of four-hit, three-run relief for MovingMe.com. He fanned four and walked three.

Deric Prescott had a double for the winners while Nate Susi singled twice for MovingMe.com.

Searsport sweeps Woodman’s

At Bangor, Nick Arthers had two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored to help lead Searsport by Woodman’s 4-0 in the first game.

Searsport beat Woodman’s 4-2 in the second game.

In the first game, Kenton Spaulding singled twice and scored a run. Mike Mayer allowed no runs on three hits for Searsport.

Dustin Leavitt had two singles while Mark O’Clair and Brian Giles each singled.

In the second game, Travis Griffin singled twice and scored a run while Howard Whitcomb and Spaulding each had two singles and an RBI for Searsport.

Shane Eddy allowed two runs on four hits for the winners.

Bill Hodgdon singled twice and drove in a run while Matt Woodrow added two singles. Chris Pease had a single and an RBI for Woodman’s.
