PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Two Connecticut men face charges after leading police on a car chase early Friday that ended in Kittery, Maine.

Trooper Christopher Roblee said he stopped the car because it had a broken taillight. He said he saw open beer containers and both occupants appeared highly intoxicated.

The car drove off before Roblee could get the men out. Police say the fleeing car reached speeds of more than 100 mph as it traveled on Route 16 and up Interstate 95 before the driver pulled over in Kittery.

He was arrested at gunpoint with help from the Maine state police.

The driver, Jeremy Gagnon, 24, of Putnam, Conn., has been charged in New Hampshire with aggravated driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct and having an open container of alcohol. Maine state police also have charged him with operating under the influence and felony speed.

The passenger, Justin Curtis, 23, of Eastford, Conn., was charged with having an open container of alcohol.

Gagnon is to appear in court today. In New Hampshire, both men are scheduled to appear in court in Portsmouth on Aug. 23.
