WARREN – A Tenants Harbor man escaped serious injury Friday night when his motorcycle struck a moose on Beachwood Street.
Randy Hilt, 41, was riding his 2006 Harley-Davidson southbound near the Warren-Thomaston line at 9:13 p.m. Friday when a moose walked into the road in front of him.
Hilt hit the brakes but could not avoid the animal. He was thrown from his bike, which continued traveling down the center of the road for a short distance before coming to a stop. The moose ran off.
“He got scraped but he’s OK,” Knox County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Todd Butler said Monday. “He was wearing a helmet.”
Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $1,500.
