A Bangor man reported to Bangor police that someone used his debit card in Florida when he wasn’t there.

Whoever was using the debit card racked up more than $5,300 in purchases, including at Wal-Mart, Staples and Babies R Us stores. The man told Detective Tyler Leighton that although he had stayed in Tampa from June 25 to 29, someone used his debit card for nearly a week before he arrived and for a few days after he left.

He said most of the unauthorized expenditures occurred on days he wasn’t in Florida, with about $1,700 spent while he was there, but for purchases he said he didn’t make. The man told police he never lost the debit card, although the card was used to reserve his hotel room in Tampa.

A Bangor man who ordered a Rolex watch in June from an eBay dealer and paid more than $4,000 for it said he never received the timepiece, according to police.

The 47-year-old man reported the fraud Wednesday at the Bangor Police Department.

According to the report, he agreed with the seller to halt the eBay online auction for the watch at $4,000. He then wired $4,254 to the man on July 23. The money was received later in the day in Jacksonville, Fla. The buyer never received a Rolex, however.
