PORTLAND – Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a husband and wife were found dead on a street in front of an apartment building.

Police said that Fred Warren fatally shot his wife, Brenda Warren, on the corner of Oxford and Anderson streets Tuesday night before turning the gun on himself.

Witnesses said they heard several gunshots come from inside an apartment before Fred Warren chased his wife into the street, where the shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m.

Police said the couple had three children between the ages of 9 and 17, but that they weren’t around at the time of the shooting.

Portland Police Chief Tim Burton said that the homicide is being treated as a case of domestic violence and that police will interview family members to develop a better understanding of what happened.
