BANGOR – An anonymous Maine Community Foundation donor has made a $300,000 grant to Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center in Bangor. The grant will support the Center’s capital campaign.

“Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center has played a crucial role in providing health resources to women throughout eastern and northern Maine,” said Meredith Jones, vice president for program development and grant making services at the Maine Community Foundation. “We have consistently supported their work through our Penobscot Valley Health Association fund and through other grants, and we’re pleased to be able to expand on that support, thanks to an MCF donor.”

Ruth Lockhart, the Center’s executive director, commented, “We are thrilled to learn about this major grant from the Maine Community Foundation. The previous facility was stretched to capacity; the new center will allow us to reduce our overhead by 50 percent.” Lockhart added, “The women we serve are pleased to be receiving health services in such a pleasant, private and secure environment.”

The center is only one of 15 private nonprofit entities of its type in the country and receives no government funding.

A statewide organization with offices in Portland and Ellsworth, the Maine Community Foundation partners with donors and community groups to strengthen Maine communities. For information, visit www.mainecf.org, or call (877) 700-6800.
