I stopped by the Patten Cemetery to visit my family’s graves. When I turned off Route 11 the most spectacular sight was before me. I jammed on my brakes and sat there with tears streaming down my face.
There were seven flagpoles, the tallest flying the American flag, the rest representing all the services and POWs and MIAs. The wind was brisk that day and all the flags were out straight. I haven’t felt this strongly since World War II. It is wonderful to know patriotism is alive and that people care.
The Bangor Daily News published a great article on the flags, but no picture. I am proud to be from Patten, and very proud to have my family buried there.
Keep up the good works, local resident Marty Arbo, volunteers and contributors.
