Holbrook beats Hampden for District 3 crown

HOLBROOK – Holbrook scored seven runs in the top of the fourth and held on to beat Hampden 10-7 for the District 3 title for ages 10-11 in Little League All-Star baseball action Friday.

Josh Theriault hit a two-run triple, Shawn Curran had three singles and three RBIs and Brady Valley added an RBI triple for Holbrook, which advances to the state tourney. Josh Williams tripled and Ian Burgess and Dakota Duplisea each chipped in with an RBI single.

Will Manning led Hampden with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Sam Ward contributed three singles and an RBI, Cooper Antone had two singles and a double and Tim Coston added a double.

At Taylor Field in Bangor, Adam King belted a two-run home run during a seven-run second inning that lifted Bangor East over Hampden.

King also had an RBI double and Luke Hettermann added three singles and two RBIs. Ellis Throckmorton, Connor Griffin and Kyle Mallory-MacDonald each had two singles and scored two runs.

Thomas Hoffman, Fred Knight, Jeddy Doyon and Cam Libby all singled for Hampden.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Brewer staved off elimination with the win over Orono-Veazie.

Brewer sent 10 batters to the plate in the first, scored five runs and never looked back. Billy Bissell had three singles and an RBI to lead the attack. David McNally had a double, a single and two RBIs. Mike Clune, Matt Helfen, and Shawn Murphy each singled twice.

Pat MacLean had four singles and an RBI while Collin Bates singled twice for Orono-Veazie.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Brian Saucier singled home Jon Gagnon with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning after Gagnon’s two-run single had tied the game for Glenburn-Levant.

Jay Spencer added a double and John Doughty had two singles and an RBI for the winners.

Gagnon also earned the pitching victory, with Alan Reese working a perfect seventh inning for the save.

Tommy Jackson had two singles and three RBIs for Holbrook, while Nick Smith had an RBI triple.

At Bucksport, an RBI double by Chris Powell, an RBI single by Derek Willette, and an RBI single by Dylan Ashmore after a wild pitch provided much-needed insurance runs for Bucksport as it eliminated Machias.

Jacob Stewart had two singles and an RBI and Powell added a single for the winners.

Alex Currier had two singles and Josh Scoville added a two-run double for Machias.

At Blue Hill, Nick Trundy drove in two runs on a double to lead Coastal past Ellsworth.

Silas Davie and Cameron Crawford each drove in a run on a single for Ellsworth.

Mikeala Cassum had an RBI single and Casey Modery chipped in with a double for Glenburn.

At Old Town, Sheree Rice smacked a double and a triple, driving in four runs, and Alexis Casy singled twice, doubled and had two RBIs as Glenburn blanked Bangor.

Megan Sherwood chipped in with a two-run double, and Bri Tocci and Jessie Devou each had two singles apiece for Glenburn.

Sadie Redman singled twice for Bangor.
