The Pleasant River Fish & Game Conservation Association will hold a Sportsman’s Flea Market and 50/50 Turkey Shoot with cash prizes July 30.

The event will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the club’s headquarters on Tibbettstown Road in Columbia.

Vendors may rent spaces, and donations of sporting items are being sought to benefit the club. Local firearms dealers will have displays and guests are invited to try the club’s new sporting clays course.

Flea market items should be limited to hunting, fishing and outdoor sporting gear.

Muskie derby approaches

The town of Fort Kent is gearing up for the third annual Fort Kent International Muskie Fishing Derby.

The derby will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 12 and will remain open until 7 p.m. Aug. 13. The total purse is $20,000. There is a $10,000 prize for catching the correct tagged fish, while the largest fish caught will earn the lucky angler $3,500.

Phippsburg kids expo on tap

The Phippsburg Sportsman’s Alliance will host an outdoor kids expo July 22 sponsored by the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.

The clubhouse is located on Main Road in Phippsburg, and the free event will be held rain or shine.

Exhibits will be youth-oriented and there will be plenty of fun activities and information about the outdoors. Exhibitors include the Maine Conservation School, the Maine Department of Conservation, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, the North American Versatile Hunting Dogs Association, the Maine Chapter of Safari Club International, the Maine Department of Marine Resources, the Maine Trappers Association, Johnson’s Sporting Goods, Midcoast Anglers, and the Christian Bowhunters Association.

In addition, laser tag, a beginner’s GPS class, a saltwater touch tank, archery, fishing, fly casting and animal identification will be offered.

Children under age 15 may enjoy a free barbecue lunch, and those over 15 may purchase lunch.
