Trenton gets 2 victories Presque Isle, Waldo split; Brewer sweeps Lincoln

BANGOR – Andy Pooler pitched a complete game, allowing only one run on five hits with six strikeouts to lead Trenton to an 8-1 American Legion baseball win over Orono Sunday at the Winkin Complex at Husson College.

Trenton improved to 15-6 as it also split a Saturday doubleheader against Bangor.

Blake Wessell hit a double, a single and drove in two runs while Collin Henry had a double with two RBIs for Trenton on Sunday.

Travis Dunton singled twice while Dusty Thomas and Travis Bryant each had a double for Orono.

Bangor, Trenton split

At Ellsworth, Collin Henry allowed only three hits and struck out eight batters to give Trenton a 9-1 win over Bangor in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. Bangor defeated Trenton in the second game 12-5.

In the first game, Kyle Shea had a single and a double while Blake Wessell singled twice for Trenton.

Scott Hackett had an RBI single while Gordon Webb and Jordan Clarke each singled for Bangor.

In the second game, Ian Edwards hit three singles while Shane Walton had a triple and a single. Scott Hackett and Anthony DeRosa each singled an doubled for Bangor.

AJ Pennartz and Henry each hit a double and a single while Mickey Manning added two singles for Trenton.

Presque Isle, Waldo split

At Searsport, Harry Carson hit a three-run home run to help lead Presque Isle by Waldo 13-12 in the first game Saturday, but Waldo rebounded with a 4-3 win in the second game.

In the first game, Matt McGlinn hit three singles and drove in a run while Pat Thibodeau added two singles for Presque Isle.

Miles Davee hit two singles and a home run with an RBI while Ethan Jean and Matt Nickerson each hit a home run. Mike Cummons and Tyson McHatten each singled twice for Waldo.

In the second game, Noah Burke had nine strikeouts on the mound. Gabe Blodgett singled with two RBIs while Miles Davee and Ryan Shute each singled twice for Presque Isle.

Tyler Lamoureux singled twice while Logan York and Carson each had a double for Presque Isle.

Brewer sweeps Lincoln

At Brewer, Corey Cushing hit a single, a double and a three-run home run to help lead Brewer to a 21-1 victory over Lincoln in the first game Saturday.

Brewer defeated Lincoln 20-0 in the second game.

In the first game, Kevin McAvoy hit an RBI single and a solo home run while Chris Maguire and Joe Robicheau each had a single and a double for Brewer.

Aaron Flannery hit a single and a double while Dustin Thomas singled twice for Lincoln.

In the second game, Ricky Adams had a triple, a double and a single with two RBIs for Brewer. Kevin McAvoy hit a home run and a double while Pat Dedmons hit a two-run home run and an RBI single. Brad Brown singled and doubled with four RBIs and Shun Sasaki added two doubles, a single and three RBIs for Brewer.

Aaron Flannery had a double for Lincoln.

At Calais Sunday, Lloyd Burnside hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Calais the win over Lincoln.

Aaron Sullivan hit three singles while Scott Geel had two singles and an RBI for Calais. Matt O’Brien added an RBI single.

Jordan Burleigh singled and drove in three runs while Cory Barnett had an RBI single for Lincoln. Ryan Ware hit three singles while Tyson Tash added a double and a single for Lincoln.

At Presque Isle Sunday, Michael Cleary hit three singles and a two-run home run to lead Presque Isle by Brewer .

Tyler Lamoureux had three singles and four RBIs while Hunter Caron singled, doubled and tripled with two RBIs for the winners Matt McGlinn added two singles and a double with two RBIs for Presque Isle..

Ricky Adams and Corey Cushing each hit a solo home run for Brewer. Kevin McAvoy singled and doubled while Prentiss Swett added a double for Brewer.

Penquis sweeps Hampden

At Dover-Foxcroft Saturday, powerful pitching propelled Penquis past Hampden for a doubleheader sweep – 3-1 and 6-0 – of Hampden.

In the first game, Tim McCarthy pitched a no-hitter while striking out seven batters and walking five.

Two walks, an error, a hit batter, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch gave Penquis all its runs in the first. In fact, all Penquis’ runs in both games came in the first. Danny Beatham’s single in the third was the game’s only hit.

Evan Farley was the tough-luck loser despite pitching a one-hitter with five strikeouts and four walks.

In the second game, David White pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks.

Eric Day hit a two-run double and Josh Pelletier added an RBI double for the Navigators.

Joel Neill doubled and singled to lead Hampden.

Orono, Calais split

At Old Town on Saturday, Dusty Thomas’ grand slam highlighted an eight-run second inning as the Twins downed the Sun 14-3 in the opener of their doubleheader.

Justin Leblanc’s solo homer in the second inning propelled the Suns to a 3-2 victory in the second game.

In the opener, Thomas also cracked a two-run homer and was the winning pitcher in a game halted after five innings.

Travis Dunton added a double and a single, George Keefe had two singles, and Max Winter doubled.

Josh Francis led the Suns with a pair of homers and knocked in all three runs, Aaron Sullivan had a double and a single, and Jeff Ramsdell and John Deacon posted two singles each.

In the second game, Sullivan contributed three singles and Scott Geel two for the Suns.

For the Twins, Jarrett Lukas had a triple, Cody Andrews and Travis Bryant had RBI doubles, and Cory Estes had a double.
