SONOMA, Calif. – Defending champion Adam Craig of Corinth and Bend, Ore., placed eighth Sunday in the pro men’s short track cross country race at the 2006 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships held at Infineon Raceway.

The Giant Bicycles rider was timed in 29 minutes, 35.57 seconds, more than a minute behind Barry Wicks of Santa Cruz, Calif., who claimed his first national championship with a time of 28:29.27 for the race, a 20-minute timed event followed by three additional loops around a one-mile course.

Jeremiah Bishop of Harrisonburg, Va., was second, five seconds back, followed by Ryan Trebon of Ventura, Calif.

Earlier in the weekend Craig won the pro men’s Super D sprint race for the second straight year while placing fifth in the pro men’s cross country event.
