BANGOR – The 5-year-old wooden bat Bay League will stage its first all-star game Sunday at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson College.

Game time is 2 p.m., with teams representing the league’s East and West divisions squaring off for the right for its divisional champion to have home-field advantage for the best-of-three league championship series to be held at Mansfield Stadium in late August.

“We’ve been in existence for five years,” said Bay League commissioner Mark Farnham, “and we just wanted to try to add something different to get the league some notice and to showcase some of the top players.”

Each of the seven teams in the league was able to nominate players for the game, with three players from each of the four East teams and four players from each of the three West teams comprising the two 12-player squads.

The East Division produced last year’s league champion, so it will be the host team for the all-star game.

Representing the East are third baseman James Gray, shortstop Jason Harvey and pitcher Keith Nason of UBS Financial; pitchers Chris Blanchette and Kyle Dalton and outfielder-designated hitter Anthony Shaw of MovingMe.com; pitchers Chad Gomm and Mike Tardiff and outfielder Rich Flynn of Dovetail Furniture; and pitcher-shortstop Nick Arthers, infielder Travis Griffin and catcher-third baseman Kenton Spaulding of the AAA ATM.

On the West squad are third baseman Brian Hackett, pitcher Josh Young, catcher P.J. Dowe and infielder Willie Baird of Union Street Cleaners; second baseman Randy Renaud, shortstop Nate Hall, third baseman Shawn Dennis and pitcher-catcher Brian McGinley of Aerus Electrolux; and pitcher Nate Hall, second baseman Bob Withee, shortstop George Tripp and catcher-outfielder Tom Dennen of Montville Tommy D’s.
