Orrington’s Curran Homestead plans fun for Old Home Week

ORRINGTON – Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are upon us again – at last – and the Curran Homestead in Orrington has planned Two Days of Summer Fun during Orrington’s Old Home Week celebration

An old-fashioned country fair will tickle everyone’s fancy on Saturday, July 22. The schedule of events is:

. Homestead tour with guide Wayne Killam, 10 a.m.

. Hands-on weaving and spinning demonstrations for children with Debbie Colson and sponsored by Heritage Farm of Orrington, 10-11 a.m.

. Open house and tours of the Curran gardens led by members of Girl Scout Troop 288 of Brewer, 10:30 a.m..

. Model-T rides with Geezers and Wheezers, 11 a.m.-noon.

. Living history storyteller Carroll Adams, past president of the Curran Homestead, 11:30 a.m.

. Barbecue of grilled chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon and salad, noon. $6, $3 children under 12.

. Live music by the Late Edition, noon.

. Hands-on weaving and spinning demonstrations for children, 1-2 p.m.

. Tractor rides, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

. Living history storytelling with Carroll Adams, 2:30 p.m.

. Memorial service for Copper the horse, and unveiling of a monument commemorating his 15 years at the homestead, 3 p.m.

. Old-fashioned games and crafts for children, 3:30 p.m.

. Tour the Curran Homestead, 4 p.m.

. Baked bean supper, 4:30-5:30 p.m. $6, $3 children under 12.

Admission to Country Fair Day is $5 for Homestead members, $8 others, $3 students.

The schedule for Maine’s Open Farm Day at the Homestead on Sunday, July 23, is:

. Tour of the homestead, 11 a.m.

. Hands-on weaving and spinning demonstrations for children, 11 a.m.-noon.

. Living history storyteller Carroll Adams, 11:30 a.m.

. Curran garden open house and tour with master gardener Teresa England, 11:30 a.m.

. Barbecue of grilled chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon and salad, noon. $6, $3 children under 12.

. Blue grass music jam session with Original Condition featuring Jim Leighton, Wayne Burtt, Dick Jagels and Dexter Johnson, noon.

. Hands-on weaving and spinning demonstrations for children, 1-2 p.m.

. Tractor rides, 1:30 p.m.

Old-fashioned children’s games and crafts with Teresa England.

. Homestead tour led by Wayne Killam, 2:30 p.m.

A feature presentation both days will be blacksmith Bob Robinson of Split Rock Forge.
